Canton Meeting

I went to a canton meeting last night.  It was an eye opener.  The level of information and use has increased  since last I was in the SCA.  I'm even more excited about participating. I learned quite a bit about tablet weaving and viking personas.  I am unable to go to today's event but I plan on going to more in the near future.  What fun there will be!

A Trip to Fabric Nirvana

My best friend (my sewing mentor and a fabulous artist) and I went to her favorite fabric "store" in search of cloak fabric.
Happy seamstresses. She who dies with the most fabric, wins!

It is Osgood's Textiles in West Springfield MA. I have found Fabric Nirvana.
My first look at the first room in the warehouse.

I went into overload and didn't buy much but I'll definitely go back.

Stunned by the woolens
gorgeous brocade

Looking through the remnants

They have just about everything you can think of and then you find something you never thought of.  It is a warehouse that can't be beat.

A row of shelves
Looking down an aisle
I can't wait to find a project for some of the things I saw.  It's been a day and I'm still trying to bring the experience into focus.

Some Progress Toward Eventing

I set my tents this weekend to see how well they have held up in storage. They are in great shape except for some smelliness. After being up for awhile, they smell fresh and clean.
They are pimples but I have some ideas about some sheet walls to hide them.
We slept in one of the new (brown) ones last night and I need to get a thicker sleeping pad.  We hope to get to a camping event this fall.

I have also started to get my garb organized. I need to find a period I really love and make garb that really fits. So much history so little time....
