Medieval Gingerbread

Well, I let the gingerbread cool too long and lost a lot of the triple batch. Here is the part that was still soft enough to roll.  I got the recipe from Gode Cookery . It's a great site and I recommend checking it out.

It made 56 balls from 3 lbs of honey. They are large about 1.5 inches, so not so bad. I'll try again tomorrow, maybe. I have to calculate how many I need for the goodie plates. This counts as another on my A and S 50 challenge, so not all is lost. A word to the wise, work with this while its still warm.

Christmas Time is here!!!

Well, so much for making everyone sewn gifts. My baking skills will be at the fore this year. I am making a lovely plate of sweets for everyone on my list.  Ginger snaps, Moravian wafers (a very spicy ginger snap), medieval ginger bread, Lubkuchen (German Honey cookies) and Chocolate Rum Truffles.  I will be snapping pics of each as they are completed this week. Up today are the ginger snaps. They are the first out of the oven.  This is what 6 dozen cookies look like. Not so much, huh. The total recipe makes 12 dozen so I got two plates out of it.

I am waiting for the wafers, the truffles and the medieval ginger bread to set up right now so I may have another post later.  The medieval gingerbread is looking pretty good for a first attempt. It tastes great but I have to wait for it to cool a bit before I try to roll it into balls.

Heraldry

Well, I have made my first attempt at heraldry. My sweetie has found a name he likes and we thought of a badge.  Now all I have to do is draw it. Not an easy task for a non artist like myself.  I did find the Pennsic traceable images and that is helping.  Luckily there are only a few pieces in it so I should have something soonish.
I like the A&S challenge. Everything I work on seems to count as I did not extend myself much when I was first in the SCA. I choose the Persona/Breadth Challenge as I am still in the formative stages of my persona.

Another project down

The new coif came out great! He vetoed the finger loop braid in favor of fabric self ties. I hand stitched the whole thing.  He loves it and can't wait to try it out!

I can't wait to start on my Christmas projects, if I could just narrow the field of possibilities. I will be doing my usual crop of cookies and candies but I want to include something useful this year. The possibles are tote bags, jewelry travel pouches, or bill folds. I have a list, if I could only find it :).
